Flood-Damaged Drive Recovery

Water damage introduces corrosion and contamination risks that most repairs don't — a drive that looks fine once dry can fail completely the moment it's powered on. Everything happens in a controlled cleanroom environment, starting with not turning it on.

01

Do not power on

The most important first step — powering on a wet or previously-wet drive risks a short circuit or head crash that turns a recoverable drive into scrap.

02

Controlled drying & corrosion assessment

The drive is dried and inspected for corrosion in a controlled cleanroom environment before any attempt to power it up.

03

Component-level repair

Corroded or damaged components — heads, PCB, connectors — are cleaned or replaced, sometimes using donor parts from a matching drive.

04

Imaging & recovery

Once the drive is safely operational, we image it immediately rather than risk repeated power cycles, then recover data from the image.

Whether it's a flood, a spilled drink, or a drive left out in the rain — the advice is the same: don't power it on, and don't try to dry it with heat. Start a case on the contact page, or see the full data recovery services overview.
